Anesthesia

To ensure that your dental procedure goes as planned and is a comfortable experience, keep the following in mind:

·         Do not eat or drink anything at all, including water, eight hours before your appointment.

·         Do not smoke 12 hours prior to your appointment.

·         You must have a friend or family member with you at the office to drive you home after your appointment.

·         Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours following your procedure.

·         Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing with sleeve that can be rolled up.

·         Remove any and all contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures prior to surgery.

·         Avoid wearing lipstick or excessive makeup on the day of your appointment.

·         Please call our office is you feel unwell or have an illness.

If you have routine medications you need to take before your appointment, please let us know.

Landreth Team Dentistry and our doctors want to give patients the most comfortable experience possible for their procedure. That’s why we our Wichita office features multiple sedation methods, including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and intravenous (IV) sedation.

IV Sedation

We will consult with you prior to your appointment to decide whether IV sedation is safe for you, based on your medical history and present health conditions. The sedative dosage we will administer during your procedure will correlate exactly to your needs. IV sedation allows us unprecedented control over relaxation levels. Depending on the amount of sedative you receive, you will feel extremely relaxed, drowsy, or you may fall asleep completely.

As with any procedure we perform, your physical safety remains our top concern. While you are under sedation, we will closely monitor blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate. After your dental work, we will stop the IV and let you rest comfortably for 15 to 20 minutes before you leave our office. If necessary, pain medication will be prescribed for you to use later. You should be able to resume normal activities the day after the appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you’re a good candidate for oral sedation, we will select an appropriate anti-anxiety or sedative drug for you to take at a pre-determined time before your appointment. These safe, widely-prescribed drugs diminish anxiety and help patients relax.

Our doctors will determine dosage based on which service you’ll be receiving. Some patients become so relaxed during their procedure that they drift off into a restful sleep. Throughout your appointment, we will closely monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety. When you choose oral sedation, you must have a responsible adult who can drive you to and from your appointment and spend some time with you after the appointment until the sedative wears off completely.

Nitrous Oxide

Many people know nitrous oxide as laughing gas. In our office, we administer nitrous oxide to enhance patient comfort and relieve anxiety for patients of all ages. After you're comfortably seated in the dental chair, you'll inhale the gas (a nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture) through a face mask. We will control the amount of nitrous you receive to ensure your safety. You will begin to relax and will not recognize pain, so the dentist can perform your dental work while you stay completely comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide subside once we remove your mask, so if nitrous is the only anesthesia you receive, you will be capable of driving yourself home following the visit and can continue your daily activities as normal.
